Sometimes we just need to highlight wonderful people that give us that little spark of hope. Dr. Amanda Vincent is one such person, driven by a determination to protect our oceans.

As well as tackling research on pressing problems, Dr. Vincent also mobilises conservation action to improve the status of marine species and habitats. Given that there is no such thing as perfect advice in an ever-changing scientific field, she is keen to act on the best available information, making recommendations in the spirit of adaptive management.

She works to tell good news stories, always seeking solutions that generate optimism and action by the largest possible number of people. Dr. Vincent, along with her Project Seahorse team, have made measurable gains in marine conservation, with encouraging outcomes and impacts from their work.

Scotty Brave’s current series of artwork champions a ‘glitch’ technique allowing for fragments in colours and lines to create a transeunt effect. This process allows for an opportunity to explore so much of the relationship between colours and vibrancy, whilst capturing a gorgeous grin and beautiful smiling eyes. In allowing those working as our environmental ambassadors to be captured in public art renditions, we will hopefully inspire a new generation of oceanographers and researchers to continue the good work in the future.

The artist will be painting at a later date.
